本會中文名稱為「台灣海事安全與保安研究會」，英文名稱為「Taiwan Association of Maritime Safety and Security」，英文縮寫為TAMSS。
本會為依法設立、非以營利為目的之社會團體。宗旨如下：潔淨的海洋、安全、安心及有效率的航運（Safe, Secure and Efficient Shipping on Clean Oceans）。
